how healthy is the food cooked in microwave?

As we hear that the plastic used for cooking food in the microwave could be detrimental to health, how reliable is using microwave?

Edible and healthy should be the question rather than reliable.
Cook in glass or ceramic. Never use plastic. I know there are plastics advertised as appropriate for microwave use but that’s what they said about plastic generally ten years ago and now we learn…
There isn’t much nutritional difference in foods that are nuked versus conventional cooking. I just find it much better to steam veggies rather than microwave because of the texture.
There’s lots of stuff that works well in the microwave. Just not everything.

Go to the store and get some fresh fish not the ones thats already packaged but the ones where the person has to get it for you. Get some lemons, oinons, salt and pepper, and some foil. Go home cut up the lemons into circle. Place the fish into a baking pan put dont forget to grease the bottom of the pan with butter. Season both sides of the fish with with the salt and pepper and then cover it with the foil and bake for 25 to 30 min i hope this help.

Simple recipes preferred. Thanks! icon smile Do you have any favorite whole food, healthy cook books?

I am a cookbook fiend and I have a ton of cookbooks. The one that would probably interest you the most is the Moosewood Cookbook. It was at one time called the Moosewood Bible. It is quite large and full of really good and good for you recipes. I can’t say that I have a particular favorite as it has been a very long time since I have used it to make something, but it was given to me when I cooked for Wild Oats, which is an "all natural" store. Enjoy.

I am in a habit of buying easy, packaged dinners, or getting take out.

I like to cook, and would like to start cooking healthy meals for my family again, what are some of your favorite dinners? You don’t have to leave recipes, i just need some inspiration! icon biggrin Mums, what easy healthy recipes do you cook your family?

Thanks

I’m not a Mum but I enjoy bring some excitement to the table once in awhile. I’ve found myself and my wife not going out as often….cost. Then you add the kids, the bill….Wow! So I’m searching and checking what other avenues to bring to the table and I found these "secret" recipes, the ones from your more familiar restaurants. I’ll say one thing there is a lot of gratification seeing your family’s eyes light up as they scarf down what you put to gather. Look, I do understand the value of eating healthy and that should be your goal…..but once in awhile have something on hand that brings excitement to the table. This is what these recipes have done for me. If you want to take a look the link is below.
