			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I want to lose 30-40 pounds but it&#8217;s difficult for me to keep a healthy diet when I have 4 kids and they like to eat sweets and different snacks.  We eat fruits and vegetables, we eat right and hardly eat at fast food restaurants and I&#8217;d like to try new recipes.  Not buying the snacks they like is not an option. </p>
<p>Can you share recipes so I can <a href="http://www.cookinghealthysecrets.com/blog" target=_self>Cook Healthy</a> foods the kids will like and that will help me with my weight loss?  Or share links to your favorite pages!  </p>
<p>My kids are 17, 15, 6 and 5 so preparing meals that they will all like sometimes can be a bit of a challenge!  I tell them I&#8217;m not a restaurant so I can&#8217;t be cooking something different for each! </p>

<br />Probably the cheapest, most healthful breakfast you can cook is oatmeal.  For 1 or 2 people, measure out your 5-minute rolled oats and water in a microwave-safe bowl (a shallow, wide bowl works best) and microwave at 60% power for about 3 minutes.  For more than 2 servings, cook it on top of the stove per the package directions.  Add a serving of seasonal fruit and you have a healthful meal.</p>
<p>For a healthful, quick breakfast that needs no cooking, make smoothies.  You can put nearly anything into a smoothie, including raw fruit, yogurt, nuts (particularly almonds), leftover oatmeal, milk, ice cubes to increase the volume, a bit of vanilla.</p>
<p>For a change of pace, a slice of cheese toast with an orange on the side makes a decent breakfast.  So does a peanut-butter-and-banana sandwich.</p>
<p>My favorite healthful pancake recipe is 1/3 cup 1-minute rolled oats, 3/4 cup white whole-wheat flour, 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder, a pinch of salt, 1 egg, 1/4 cup canola oil, 3/4 cup water.  Mix, bake on a griddle, serve with applesauce or fruit preserves or syrup.  </p>
<p>For other meals of the day, remember that you need to make your meals 1/2 fruits and non-starchy vegetables, 1/4 whole grains, and 1/4 protein (including pulses and legumes). Interesting ways to eat healthy and cheap include:</p>
<p>Bean Soup<br />
Select dried beans/peas&#8211;one kind or mix several kinds (dark take longer to cook; light cook quicker).<br />
Wash and pick over the beans; soak several hours or overnight if you have time to do so.<br />
Drain; put in cooking pot and cover with water to the second knuckle of your index finger.<br />
Add any vegetables you car to add.  Good additions include root veggies&#8211;carrots, onions, parsnips&#8211;and celery<br />
Cook until done, 1 to 4 hours, depending on the bean variety.  Serve with raw veggies and cornbread.</p>
<p>Rice and Greens<br />
I got this &quot;recipe&quot; when I visited a friend who was cooking it.  I thought it sounded gross; he invited me to taste it, and I liked it.  You might too.<br />
Wash 1 pound of mixed greens (turnip, mustard, kale, rocket, and similar greens)<br />
Put the greens in a cooking pot with 1 cup of brown rice, 2 cups of water, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.<br />
Bring to a boil, cover, and cook for 1 hour.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My hubby and I are changing our eating habit and is losing weight, and eat right. Is there a healthy recipe cookbook that I could use. I have no idea where to start looking for healthy cookbok.<br />
<br />There are loads of &quot;healthy&quot; cookbooks &#8211;so many, in fact, that it can be overwhelming.  And like anything else in this world, they can vary tremendously in how tasty their recipes are, how easy to make, the kinds of ingredients they use, and even *how* healthy they actually are.</p>
<p>There is a load of stuff online too (for free) about eating healthy.  </p>
<p>You can find both some suggestions for healthy cookbooks, and loads of stuff online about eating healthy (and losing weight too if you want), in my answers to these previous questions (as well as information I&#8217;ve written in some of them).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We&#8217;re down to two in the household and I&#8217;ve never really enjoyed cooking much.  We both like eating healthy but on a budget.  Thanks!<br />
I have experience cooking (I was the main cook in the family for 23 years) and have some cookbooks, but really want things to make that are easy to whip up fast and still healthy.  We don&#8217;t really want a lot of leftovers.  I do buy lots of fresh fruit, and organic as much as possible.<br />
<br />Autumn, what I like to do is take some skinless, boneless chicken breasts and cube them and brown them in a pan, when they are almost done, I&#8217;ll add a bag of my favorite frozen veggies over the top and put the lid on till the veggies are steamed &#8212; season however you like.  You can serve this over noodles, rice or just serve with a salad.  You can also saute some chicken thighs, legs, breasts in a pan, throw in some onions, peppers, mushrooms and a can of stewed tomatoes and italian seasoning and put a lid on a bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.  Or you can saute chicken in a pan and then add a jar of Indian sauce and then bake in the oven (if you like Indian food) and serve over rice.</p>

1 egg<br />
1 teaspoon vanilla extract<br />
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon<br />
2 packages Splenda<br />
1 slice wheat bread<br />
1 tablespoon milk</p>
<p>Directions:<br />
Spray skillet with non-stick coating,<br />
